Four Truck Drivers Test Positive, COVID 19 Cases Now 79

Four more truck drivers have tested positive to COVID-19. These are ere among  the 1578 truck drivers who were tested on Sunday by the Uganda Virus Research Institute – UVRI.

All the positive cases, according to the Ministry of Health, are Tanzanian truck drivers that arrived into the country through the border at Mutukula. The result now brings Uganda’s total to 79.

Also tested are 411 samples from the community in Uganda who all tested negative.

However, with the new positives, the number of truck drivers from the neighboring countries to test positive are now 20, a development that continues to baffle Uganda’s officials with calls especially on social media to have quick interventions that stop further transmission of the disease in the country where by some propose closure of the border.

But, President Yoweri Museveni said last week that the proposal will not be possible although he noted that they are brainstorming on having truck drivers tested on arrival at the border and having their results confirmed before proceeding into the country.

Uganda has so far discharged 47 COVID-19 patients who have recovered and tested negative to the virus. The latest discharge was  on Sunday at Mulago National Specialized hospital.

All cases recorded in Uganda have been categorised as mild by health workers.
