Rukungiri district Covid-19taskforce members arrested for stealing 170 bags of food relief

Police in Rukungiri district western Uganda have arrested 4 Covid-19taskforce members for allegedly stealing food relief being distributed to people affected by lockdown.

According to the Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Mate, on the night of 30th April, Nuwamanya Isaac, Tukamuhebwa Robert, Beyamba Joseph and Kusiima David all working the district Covid-19taskforce, loading relief Posho totaling to 170bags of maize flour from the district stores into a vehicle belonging to Nuwamanya without being authorized.

He adds that after getting the information, the four officers were summoned to make a statement and searches conducted in their houses and only 7bags of maize flour were recovered from the suspects.

Mate said once investigations are done, the file will be submitted to Rukungiri resident state attorney for his perusal and legal advice.
