Kagadi
Elderly persons in Kagadi District have asked the government to consider reducing the eligibility age for Social Assistance Grant for Empowerment -SAGE beneficiaries to at least 80-60 years.
Each of the qualified older people has been getting a monthly payment of 25,000 Shillings.
Speaking during the orientation training for Kagadi district elderly council members and the district stakeholders on Wednesday, the elders asked the government to consider reducing the age number to at least 60 years arguing that persons above this age are few for government to afford.
They also asked the government to always pay them in time.
The elders’ proposal was backed up by the Kagadi district chairperson Ndibwani B Yasio saying lowering the age of SAGE beneficiaries would enable the retiring civil servants get enrolled on SAGE as soon as they retire from civil service.
The Kagadi District community development officer Ngondwe Posiano told the elderly persons that the challenge of delayed payment will be sorted soon.
