Oulanyah’s Body Arrives in Omoro, Starts Lap to Final Resting Place

The body of the former Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah has finally arrived in his home District of Omoro in Northern Uganda.

Oulanyah’s body arrived aboard a Uganda People’s Defense Air Forces-UPDAF chopper that landed at exactly 6 Pm at Lalogi Primary school playground and was welcomed by Acholi Traditional dancers performing the royal Bwola Dance.

Present to receive Oulanyah’s body were the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa and clerics from Both the Anglican and Roman Catholic churches led by Gulu Archdiocese Archbishop John Baptist Odama, Rt. Rev. Godfrey Loum, the Northern Uganda Diocese Bishop and Bishop Emeritus Rt. Rev Johnson Gakumba.

Hundreds of mourners gathered at the school and as many were seen wailing in pain while others ululated for the return of their son.

The Police brass band is leading a procession with the body from Lalogi Primary school to his ancestral village home in Ayom Lony in Jaka Parish about nine kilometres away. Oulanyah’s body will lay in his new house whose construction hadn’t yet been completed by the time of his demise.

A joint council meeting will be held on Thursday by local government councils from Acholi, Lango and West Nile in honor of Oulanyah before the final burial on Friday.
