Owekitinisa Robert Owagonza, the minister of finance and planning of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom has on wednesday 06 04 2022 been elected the head of laity for Bunyoro Kitara diocese.
Owagonza who was elected today by the Diocesan house of laity during the 22nd Synod meeting of Bunyoro Kitara diocese at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Duhaga in Hoima city replaces Canon Desteo Kyeyune.
Robert Owagonza will be deputized by Alice Kabasana, the head teacher of Mambugu COU primary school.
Kabasana who doubles as the head of laity for St. Luke’s church of Uganda Kagadi parish has replaced Alice Kabatereine.
Owagonza has pledged to work with clergies and other Christians to promote the diocese.
Teacher Alice Kabasana has thanked God for the opportunity given to her to serve his people.
The outgoing Head of laity of Bunyoro Kitara diocese, Canon Desteo Kyeyune has thanked God for helping him to end his term peacefully.
Rt Reverend Samuel Kahuma Abwoli ,the Bishop of Bunyoro Kitara Diocese during the 22nd Diocesan Synod 2022 sitting at St. Peter’s Cathedral Hoima Elevated six reverends to the Rank of Canons of St. Peter’s Cathedral in the Church of Uganda.
They include , Rev. Jacob Ateirweho – Vicar All saints Hoima, Ven. Rev Teo Irumba – Kagadi, Rev. James Mbabazi ,Rev. William Sakwezi, Rev. Mugisa Francis the DS BKD and Rev. Shem Kiirya Of Kiziranfumbi.
He said they will be installed on 5th June 2022 at St. Peter’s Cathedral Hoima.
The 22nd synod meeting has also allowed Kagadi archdeaconry to start preparing for a Diocese status.
This has caused excitement among Christians of Kagadi archdeaconry.
The Vicar of Kagadi archdeaconry, Reverend Patrick Musinguzi said elevating Kagadi archdeaconry to a diocese status has been long overdue.
He called upon the general public to join hands in order to attain the diocese status.
