Minister Dr Kasirivu survives assassination by gunmen

Dr Kasirivu Atwooki the state minister in charge of the Vice President’s office has survived assassination by gunmen who fired bullets at his vehicle in an ambush.

Dr Kasirivu who is also the Bugangaizi West MP was waylaid by gunmen at around 1:00am on Wednesday early morning in Kakora village-Nyalweyo town council a few kilometers to his home in the same village.

Dr Kasirivu who was in his   vehicle returning from a radio program at Emambya FM in Kakumiro Town faced gunfire where over eight bullets pierced through the vehicle.


He together with his driver escaped unhurt.

He survived after his driver sped off from the scene.


Speaking to our reporter at around 1:30am, Dr Kasirivu said that he has survived because of God’s mercy. He suspects the attack is politically motivated ahead of Tomorrow’s general elections.


The Minister’s bodyguard who was also driving the vehicle says the ambush was laid by about two gunmen who were firing from two sides.

The Kakumiro District Police Commander.ASP TwahaBuyinz has confirmed that there was shooting at the minister and police investigations have kicked off.

Dr Kasirivu is vying for Bugangaizi West MP seat on independent ticket. He is facing Fred Byamukama-NRM and Annent Kusingura-independent. Police is yet to give official statement on the matter.
