Two Teachers Killed on Bike in Kibaale as Another Drops Dead in Kagadi

Two teachers from Kibaale District lost their lives in a road crash, while another teacher from Kagadi District also died after collapsing on the same day.

The two teachers who died in the accident have been identified as John Baptist Barongo, a resident of Kasambya in Kakumiro District, and John Sekate, a resident of Kabasekende in Kibaale District.Both were teachers at Kaisekenkere Primary School. Barongo John Baptist was a teacher of English in Primary Seven and Primary Six, while Sekate John taught Social Studies (SST) in Primary Six and Primary Five. 

The accident happened on Monday night along the Kibaale–Kakumiro road near Mbaya Swamp in Matale Sub-county, Kibaale District. The two were traveling on a motorcycle, registration number UFM 033U, when it collided with an Isuzu tipper truck, registration number UA 956DA. They reportedly died on the spot.

After the accident, their bodies were taken to the Kibaale Health Centre IV mortuary before being transferred on Tuesday to Kaisekenkere Primary School for prayers ahead of burial. Dr. Kasangaki Andrew Kaahwa, the Assistant In-Charge of Kibaale Health Centre IV, said the duo died of acute respiratory arrest, which he attributed to the failure to wear helmets at the time of the accident.

Kaisekenkere Primary School belongs to Dr. Emily Kugonza, the Member of Parliament for Buyanja East County in Kibaale District. 

Speaking on his behalf, his wife, Scholastic Kugonza, described the deceased as dedicated and hardworking educators who lived peacefully with everyone.

It is reported that the two teachers had earlier gone to prepare their gardens for the upcoming planting season, and the fatal accident occurred while they were returning from home. 


Agaba Brian, the deputy head teacher, said the staff will greatly miss the services of John Sekate and John Baptist Barongo at the school. 

Atuhairwe Jane, a pupil at Kaisekenkere Primary School, said they have lost remarkable teachers who will always be missed by the learners.

During the requiem mass, Rev. Fr. John Bosco Mugisa, the education chaplain of Buseesa Parish in Kibaale District, urged believers to always be prepared because no one knows the exact time or day when God will call them.He also encouraged Christians to continue trusting in God, emphasizing that God has authority over the lives of all people.

Meanwhile, another teacher identified as John Muhumuza, a teacher at St. Adolf Secondary School in Muhororo Town Council, Kagadi District, also died on the same day.

Muhumuza, who hailed from Kyenjojo District and served as the school’s head of sports, reportedly collapsed and died on Monday evening. The police have not yet released a report on the deaths of the three teachers in Kagadi and Kibaale.
