President’s office launches Bunyoro industrial hub in Masindi

The office of the president has today launched the establishment of Bunyoro industrial hub in Masindi district.

The industrial hub will sit on 100 acres of land in Myeba village Kimengo sub county Masindi district. The 100 acres of land was offered by Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) which is part of 23 square miles Uganda Investment Authority land in Kimengo Sub County.

Launching the industrial hub, Lucy Nakyobe the state house controller said after its establishment they are going to do a number of activities including; skilling residents of Bunyoro, value addition and also get a portion of four acres where residents will be taught how to go about the four acre model the president has been agitating for.

Under the skilling programme, she explained that they are going to engage in carpentry, tailoring, knitting, shoe making, stone cutting among others. She also noted that they are going to ensure that the industrial hub is well equipped.

She also said that the Centre being in Masindi doesn’t mean the host district will take the a lion share adding that the selection of the beneficiaries will depend on the population within the district.

She added that the role for  state house is to set up a an industrial park and hand it over to the governing council which will be selected amongst the technocrats and the politicians from Bunyoro.

She also challenged the politicians and the technocrats to ensure that that the project doesn’t fail arguing that state house projects do not fail.

She also warned politicians from the eight districts of Bunyoro not to politicize the project noting that everyone should benefit regardless of his/her political affiliation.

Benon Kumumanya, the Permanent secretary Ministry of Local government asked the leaders and the people of Bunyoro to receive the project, embrace it and develop it to higher levels.

The launch was held in Masindi district at the district health Board room and it was attended by the district chairpersons, chief administrative officers, Resident District Commissioners, and the technocrats from the eight the district of Bunyoro including Kakumiro, Masindi, Hoima, Bulisa,Kiryandongo, Kagadi, Kibaale and Kikuube.

Charles Ntairehoki the district Kiryandongo welcomed the project and pledged total support towards it.
