Eleven people suspected of pelting stones and empty bottles at Musician Moses Ssali, also known as Bebe Cool have been arrested, and are now detained at Jinja Road Police Station. The incident happened over the weekend at Boom Party organised by musician Cinderella Sanyu aka Cindy.
This is the second time Bebe Cool is experiencing such an attack, the first being last year at a concert by Jamaican sensational Tyrrus Rilley in Kampala. On both occasions, Bebe Cool did not get off the stage but continued performing in total disregard of his attackers.
Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga said police had deployed overt and covert personnel who picked up whoever was sighted throwing bottles. The suspects were identified as Ssempala Juma, Otim Ashraf, Nasur Nyanzi, Kasule Herman, Kasim Ssemwogere, Lubaga Fahima, Jawad Jimmy, Muhwezi Gift, Habuyi Suleiman, Habimana Innocent and Ndabangi Godwin.
Police named the suspects hours after President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s son, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba took to tweeter criticizing the force and bouncers for allowing in what he termed as ‘hooligans’ to hurl bottles at Uganda’s ‘greatest artistes’.
“The same hooligans beat up women for simply loving @Kaguta Museveni and @Bebe CoolUG. We expect a lot better next time from @Uganda Police,” Lt. Col Kainerugaba tweeted on Monday morning.
Enanga said police are yet to attribute the actions towards Bebe Cool as politically motivated until investigations are complete. By press time, the suspects had recorded statements with criminal investigations teams at Jinja Road before preferred charges could be concluded.
Crime intelligence also arrested two people who robbed revellers as they returned from the show on Saturday night pretending to be Boda-boda riders working in the night. Deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, said the robbers were riding two motorcycles.
Owoyesigyire said once a passenger sat on one of the motorcycles, the other could follow until they reached a dark spot and robbed the victims clean. Owoyesigyire identified the suspected robbers as Mugerwa Patrick and Mugisha Frank all in their early 20’s. One of the motorcycles used has been identified as UEU 710D.
“On search Mugerwa Patrick was found hiding a brand new machete which was recovered together with other three suspected stolen mobile phones. We keenly followed this group of criminals using our CCTV cameras until they were arrested,” Owoyesigyire said.
Police are currently trying to established the number of suspects who were robbed by thugs before they were arrested. Police have preferred charges of aggravated robbery against Mugisha and Mugerwa.
