Two dead, Four Injured in Rukiga Accident

Two people have been confirmed dead and four others critically injured in an accident that occurred along Muhanga Kisizi road in Rukiga district.

A motor vehicle registration number UEW-086S Fuso Fighter that was carrying cabbages veered off the road after a head-on collision with a motor vehicle registration number UAR-043Q. According to an eyewitness identified as Denis Niwabaine Njonjo, the two were sitting on top of the Fuso vehicle which was reportedly heading to Rukungiri.

The deceased have been identified as Gilbert Basheija, 38, and Amon Atuheire, 26. They are both residents of Kyobugombe in Kaharo sub-county, Kabale district. Their four colleagues whose identities are not yet known were rushed to Kisizi hospital of Rukungiri district in critical condition.

Niwamanya told Uganda Radio Network that after the accident, the driver of the Fuso went into hiding. All occupants of the other vehicle came out with no visible injuries. 

Rukiga District Police Commander Aggrey Okumu said police is investigating the cause of the accident.
