Besigye to Ugandans: Speak up and thrive or keep silent and perish

People’s Government President Dr Kizza Besigye has challenged Ugandans to decide between perishing and surviving, indicating that silence or struggle to demand for effective use of public funds will make the difference.

Besigye was on Wednesday delivering his 2nd State of the People Address (SOPA) which focused on economic recovery, regeneration of people’s welfare to survive and rehabilitation of the health sector to meet people’s health needs.

Besigye who says Uganda is facing serious political and economic challenges resulting from political mismanagement, states that people are anxious and distressed, and the economy is troubled and yet the political elites and policy makers are either profiteering from the challenges or clueless on how to resolve national problems.

He says following outbreak of Coronavirus, President Museveni and his regime have demonstrated “a high appetite to accumulate money to achieve Museveni’s individual political endeavors and plans instead of drafting plans and policies that would support the entire population.”

Besigye calls for a national conversation to demand for reappropriation of resources that could see Shs19.7 trillion invested in providing stimulus package for SMEs in distress, revive the healthcare sector and improve people’s lives and welfare.

The State of the People took place at Kasangati garden in presence of selected People’s Government officials in line with WHO guidelines of social distancing.
