The newly posted magistrate at Kagadi Grade one court in Kagadi town, His worship Benedict Lwanga Nsibambi has said the backlog of criminal cases has led to overwhelming congestion in Kagadi prison.
His worship Benedict Lwanga Nsibambi has spent two weeks in Kagadi district.
He however, says the records indicate that court has pending 300 land related cases and 1000 criminal cases and over 200 ordinary civil cases were also registered.
He attributes the increase of crime rate to rapid development in Kagadi district.
Addressing journalists last evening, Nsibambi assured the people of Kagadi that all cases will be handled soon as instructed high authority.
He plans to conduct regular court sittings and employ a system of sentencing some convicts to community services.
He has called upon those who were given court bail and were inconvenienced by an outbreak of COVID 19 and transport challenge to report to court within a period of 2 weeks to reschedule their date of hearing their cases.
He however, said those who will not turn within the given two weeks will be re-arrested and have their court bail cancelled and be charged with failure to observe court bail conditions.
