Kagadi-The LC5 chairperson Kibaale, Amara Peter Salongo on Sunday received a warm reception from residents of Kagadi district, after his nomination at the NRM Party headquarters, Kyadondo Kampala.
Amara was welcomed by thousands of locals at Buronzi trading Centre, at the boarder of Kagadi and Kibaale districts.
The procession started from Buronzi trading centre via Isunga-Kyanaisoke-Kasokero-Kyezige road and then Kagadi town.
However, his convey comprising fleets of vehicles and motor vehicles was intercepted by police at Nankulabye cell Kagadi town on Kagadi-Hoima road on allegations of defying the COVID-19 Guidelines.
Police fired teargas to disperse Amara’s supporters in vein.
In an interview with our reporter, Amara Peter Salongo thanked the people of Kagadi for teaming up with him but accused police of sidelining with the incumbent MP whose procession was intercepted but later allowed to enter Kagadi central business area.
The district police commander, Kamar Stephen was not readily available for a comment.
