Uganda Coronavirus infections soar above 6,000 as Moroto records highest cases on Saturday

Moroto district has recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases from tests done on Friday, September 18, the Ministry of Health has confirmed.

The Commissioner General of Prison Dr Johnson Byabashaija revealed that some of the over 200 prisoners who on Wednesday escaped from Moroto Government prison were COVID-19 contacts who were waiting for their results.

With 423 new cases confirmed, 166 cases have been registered from Moroto district.

This rises the total confirmed cases of Ugandans to 6017.

Part of the confirmed cases are 411 alerts and contacts of previously confimed cases.

“Moroto (166), Kampala (85), Butaleja (59), Mukono (27), Lira (14), Mbale (10), Wakiso (9), Luwero (6), Buikwe (5), Kisoro (4), Gulu (3), Bududa (5), Jinja (4),
Kumi (3), Kanungu (1), Kapchorwa (4), Mpigi (1), Soroti (3), Mityana (1), Sironko (1),” reads a statement from MOH.

Additionally 12 returnees with 8 from Saudi Arabia, 3 from India and one from Jordan tested positive for coronavirus.

Uganda has also registered 2 new COVID-19 deaths from Kampala and Mpigi.

This brings the death toll to 63 while the 2,583 have recovered from COVID-19.
