Kibaale District Celebrates Belated World Environment Day with Tree Planting

on Friday 05.07 .2024  ; Kibaale District belatedly marked World Environment Day with a tree planting exercise and other activities aimed at promoting environmental conservation and sustainability.

The event, held in Kayanja Sub County, was delayed due to logistical challenges but drew a enthusiastic crowd of district officials, students, and community members.

The day began with a tree planting exercise at Kibaale Secondary School, where various tree species were planted to combat climate change and soil erosion.

 Dr. Emily Kugonza, Member of Parliament for Buyanja East County, emphasized the importance of afforestation and urged the community to take ownership of environmental conservation.

“The environment is our collective responsibility, and we must work together to protect it,” Dr. Kugonza said. “Tree planting is a crucial step in combating climate change and soil erosion, and I commend Kibaale District for taking the lead.”

Godfrey Muwonge Kasanga, Kibaale district’s LC5 chairperson, commended the participants for their enthusiasm and commitment to environmental conservation. “Today’s event demonstrates our district’s dedication to protecting the environment,” Muwonge said. “We must continue to work together to ensure a sustainable future for our community.”

The event included exhibitions, speeches, and other activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainability. Despite being belated, the celebration showed the district’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability.
