Man strangles girlfriend, kills self over suspected HIV infection

A 27-year old man in Kibaale District has allegedly strangled his girlfriend and committed suicide on suspicion that she infected him with HIV/AIDs.
Police said Sifa Naziwa, 29, was murdered by her boyfriend on Christmas Eve in Kigoro-Bujogoro village in Kabasekende Sub County in Kibaale District.

“Her body was found floating in a stagnant pool of water after she was strangled to death,” said Mr Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police spokesperson.
Police said the boyfriend only identified as Paul who has been a casual labourer and a resident of the same area decided commit suicide after allegedly killing his girlfriend.
“He was found hanging on a tree. He left a note in his pocket indicating that his girlfriend infected him with HIV,” Mr Hakiza added.

The case was registered under reference KB 851/19 as investigations continue.
This comes barely a month after a woman in Hoima District allegedly killed her boyfriend when she found him swallowing anti retrial viral drugs (ARVs), a drug used to prevent a retrovirus, such as HIV from replicating.


Police said Tumusiime Emmanuel, 35, a resident of Kijumba cell in Kigorobya town council in Hoima District was hacked to death at his home in Kigorobya town.
