Omukama of Bunyoro marks 26 years on the throne

The Omukama of Bunyoro Kitara Dr Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I this afternoon commemorated 26 years since he ascended the throne.

The King ascended the throne on June 11 1994.

Unlike the previous celebrations where mammoth crowds would join Empango celebrations the King’s Karuziika palace, very few people were allowed to join him at a thanksgiving service which the King attended at St Peter’s cathedral in Hoima town.

Due to the threat posed by the corona virus, the King did not conduct several festivals that usually characterize Empango.

The Omukama, who set off in a motorcade from his palace at about 10.30am, arrived at St Peter’s cathedral at about 11am where he was received by the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Prime Minister Mr Andrew Byakutaga and the Bishop of Bunyoro Kitara Diocese Rt. Rev. Samuel Kahuma Abwooli.

The service was attended by the retired Arch Bishop of Uganda Rt. Rev. Stanley Ntagali, the Bishop of Hoima Diocese Rt Rev Vincent Kirabo, the Senior Presidential advisor on Oil and Gas Dr Kabagambe Kaliisa who is also the chairperson of the Kingdom’s Royal commission among other dignitaries.

In his sermon, Bishop Kahuma cautioned the people in Bunyoro against lamentations and focusing on negatives.

He advised people to focus on things that will develop the Kingdom and Uganda in general.

He said the strength of the people of Bunyoro should be in hard work, avoiding lamentations and avoid focusing on excuses.

He asked people to embrace the Kingdom and have a positive attitude towards development projects.

The Bunyoro Queen Omugo Margret Karunga Adyeeri asked leaders to join hands in fighting against domestic violence. She said parents and guardians should use promote peace in their homes and be exemplary to their children.

She advised farmers to use the prevailing environment to plant adequate food for consumption and sale.

She asked the King’s subjects to embrace the Kingdom’s development projects and those with unique project ideas should bring them to the Kingdom administration instead of focusing on past challenges of the Kingdom.

The Prime Minister of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Mr Andrew Byakutaga the 26 years of the reigning of the Omukama has triggered social economic transformation in Bunyoro.

He said the King has promoted unity of his people and initiated various projects aimed at improving on the welfare of his people.

Owek Byakutaga said due to the conducive environment which the King has created in Bunyoro, the oil and gas developments have been undertaken in his region.

He petitioned Government to operationalize a Public University in Bunyoro.

Various dignitaries attended the service.
