Stray Lion shot dead after injuring four people, killing livestock in Kagadi

A stray lion that had terrorized  residents of Kobusera village in Mpeefu sub county Kagadi district, killing over ten goats and injuring four people including the UPDF officer,  has been killed.

The animal was gunned down on Friday afternoon during a joint operation between Uganda police, UPDF and Uganda world life authority officials.

The injured UPDF officer is Corporal Amodoi Moses attached to the line infantry battalion.

He says he was injured on the arms after the Lion over powered him.

He was saved by the community member who speared the lion.

Others who were injured have been admitted at different health facilities.

Nabasa Tumusime, 28, who suffered serious injuries on the head and limbs, is admitted at Kagadi general hospital.

Residents told our reporter that the lion invaded their area on Friday morning and started attacking livestock and people in gardens.

Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Mawanda Lubega, the commander of line infantry battalion says they decided to kill the lion because they feared that more people could be hurt as a mob had gathered to hunt the animal.

“There was a crowd that had formed around it, so it was practically impossible to capture it the way we planned to,” he added.

The Kagadi district police commander, Moses Muzima Kiconco says the operation was successful.

He asked people to return to their work.

Nditonzi Gerald, the chairperson of Kasara village has thanked the security agencies for responding in time to rescue people.

Officials from Uganda world life authority removed the skin from the lion to be used as the evidence and allowed the community members to enjoy the lion’s flesh.

It’s not clear in which National park the lion escaped from.
