A businesswoman in Lira district has lost her life after being hit by a stray bullet. Sylvia Amoli was hit in a scuffle between her son and three assailants who broke into their home in Gweng-abara village in Adekokwok Sub County on Friday night.
It is alleged that the assailants entered Amoli’s house where her husband, Mathew Oweka and her son only identified as Kenneth were watching television. A scuffle ensued between one of the assailants when Kenneth grabbed his gun and released 9 bullets in the air.
One of the bullets hit Amoli who came running from her bed room. According to residents, two of the assailants took off, leaving behind their colleague who was severely beaten and chopped by the family members using his own machete.
Both Amoli and the thug breathed their last while being rushed to Lira hospital. Michael Odongo, the North Kyoga Region Police Spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying no arrest has been made.
Police have also recovered an SMG rifle registration number DA220479 with one round of ammunition that was being used by the thugs. The other victims who sustained minor injuries during the scuffle are receiving treatment at Lira Main Hospital.
