Uganda has reported 35 new Covid-19 cases, raising the country’s tally of infections to 557.
“The ministry of health confirms thirty five new COVID-19 cases from 2267 samples tested on 4th June, 2020. All cases are Ugandan,” reads a statement released on Friday morning.
The new cases include 15 truck drivers who arrived from different pints of entry including 7 from Elegu Border, 2 from Busia, 3 from Malaba, 2 members of security from Elegu and one from Ngomokoma Gulu District.
The infections include 20 individuals who are contacts to previously confirmed cases.
These include seven cases from Kampala, 5 from Amuru, 3 from Mayuge, 2 from Kyotera, 1 from Wakiso, 1 from Dokolo and 1 from Amudat Districts.
The Health Minister, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng said all were in quarantine at the time of test.
Authorities have also blocked 31 positive foreign truck driver from entering and handed them over to their country of origin.
So far, 82 people who previously tested positive for the virus have recovered and been discharged from hospitals across the country. The ministry says Uganda has not registered any coronavirus death.
